Our piano course covers everything from basic techniques such as fingering and notation, to more advanced techniques such as pedal playing and dynamics. Once you have been playing for a while and feel comfortable with your instrument, we also offer the opportunity to play in an ensemble. Playing with other musicians is a fantastic and enriching experience that develops your collaborative and listening skills, while allowing you to experience the collective power of music making.

For adults

We teach piano to adults, one to one with a teacher – in the daytime or in the evening. You don't need to have played before, and you can start at any time of the year. You choose lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Many people believe that technique is something you never learn if you start as an adult, but the lessons are designed precisely so that you learn it right, and you read music and play from your very first lesson. You begin with a trial lesson, where the teacher gets to know you. Then, together, you find a day and time that suits you.

What the student learns

Reading music: we believe that reading music is essential to develop skills on the instrument. Therefore, during the piano lessons we learn to read notes and play simultaneously from the first day.

Rhythm: we clap different rhythms and go through all the note values.

Chords: we learn to understand how different chords are structured and how they are related to each other.

Hearing and singing: being able to sing is one of the most important factors in the development of hearing. Therefore, we practice singing different notes that we play and practice recognizing them on the piano.

Sound: we work on being able to create different sounds with the piano. So not just weak or strong, but darker/clearer/thicker/brilliant etc.

Technique: a pianist is just like an athlete. As a pianist, you use your body to make music, and certain movements put more or less strain on your body. That's why we learn not only what note to play, but also how. We work intensively during the summer course to help you understand how sound and technique go hand in hand. Everyone can produce the "right" sound once, but to be able to do it every time is something you have to master. Many people think that when you start learning to play the piano in adulthood, technique is something you can never learn. But our adult piano lessons are designed to help you learn correctly and effectively.

How it works

At Malmö Musikskola we believe that continuity is crucial for success in music studies.

Unlike other subjects that are naturally used in everyday life, music requires regular practice and guidance, especially at the beginning of studies.

Therefore, we offer a planned study program of 40 lessons over a year, with 17 lessons taking place in the autumn semester and 17 in the spring semester. The remaining lessons are flexibly distributed, mostly during the summer.

Our approach provides students with a stable structure and the opportunity to progress continuously, while enjoying breaks in the summer, as well as during the fall, sports, Christmas and Easter holidays. This balance ensures that each student can progress and achieve their goals without losing touch with their studies for extended periods.

Per student, incl. VAT. The annual fee divided over twelve months. 40 lessons per year. Notice period 2 calendar months.
